Travel Grants / General Information

The Geneva Health Forum 2010 will provide a limited number of travel grants to participants from low income and lower-middle income countries. The countries list is based on the World Bank list.

Requests for travel grants are made available to participants whose abstract has already been accepted. Requests can only be submitted via the On-Line Application System, which will be available to eligible authors once the abstract selection process has been completed.

Eligibility:

  • An abstract must be submitted and officially accepted by the Geneva Health Forum
  • Applicants can submit one application for a travel grant to the Geneva Health Forum 2010. You may not re-apply in any case.
  • Your application will NOT be taken into consideration unless your country is listed under low income and lower-middle income economies on the World Bank list.
  • You must be able to prove that you work in a field and in an institution directly relevant to the Geneva Health Forum.
  • You must be able to advance your airfare: you will be reimbursed upon arrival at the conference centre by means of a forfeit (one global fee) - should you be accepted for a grant. The airfare reimbursement fee will be determined according to your point of departure and will be communicated to you with the acceptance letter.
  • Your travel grant application must be submitted before the closing date (15 December 2009).

*The Forum registration fees and two to three nights of accommodation, which we reserve and pay directly, in a simple hostel or hotel, are covered by the grant as well as a local public transportation card. No other daily expenses are provided.

Assessment criteria:

  • motivation of applicant
  • relevance of applicant's professional activity
  • previous positions, publications, awards, or prizes
  • contribution to the forum programme (abstract accepted for oral or poster presentation)
  • confirmation of affiliation by applicant's host organization (applicant's current employer)

If accepted you will be responsible for:

  • advancing your own airfare
  • your own daily expenses while in Switzerland (you will receive one forfeit fee which is reimbursement of airfare; your hotel costs and registration fees are paid directly by the Forum).
  • applying for a visa, making sure you plan ahead of time. For some African countries, three months are required to complete the process.
